Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 4 tangerines or small oranges, cut into 1/8-inch slices
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the sugar and water to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until the sugar is dissolved. Gently layer the tangerine slices into the sugar mixture.
  2. Cover and simmer 10 minutes, stirring once. Remove from the heat and take off the lid. Let the tangerine slices cool in the syrup mixture for 10 minutes.
  3. Gently lift the tangerine slices with two forks, allowing the syrup to drain off. Transfer to a wire cooling rack or parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Let stand at room temperature overnight to dry. Reserve the syrup mixture for another use.
  4. In a 1-cup microwave-safe glass measuring cup, place chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave uncovered on High 30 seconds; stir. Microwave 15 seconds longer; stir until smooth. Cool 15 minutes before dipping tangerine slices.
  5. Dip half of each tangerine slice into cooled chocolate mixture. Place on a wire cooling rack or parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Let stand at room temperature about 15 minutes or until chocolate is set. They can be kept refrigerated for several days.
